Improve sound quality with ZEN Air DAC. DAC stands for "Digital to Analogue Converter". In short, the DAC converts the digital information stored on the source device - computer, game console, tablet or smartphone - into music that we can hear through speakers or headphones. Every device that is a digital sound source has a built-in DAC. External DACs sound much better than the conventional ones used in the respective devices.
Sound
ZEN Air DAC plays high-resolution audio quality. It is far superior to the standard sound you get using only a computer, game console, tablet or smartphone. Imagine the difference between a standard TV and a 4K Ultra HD TV - but on the sound side!
DAC and headphone amplifier
ZEN Air DAC works as a DAC and headphone amplifier. It's a great first step if you want to start your audiophile journey. Simply connect it to your computer or smart device via a USB cable. Then connect it to your favorite headphones via the headphone jack or to a pair of speakers via the RCA connections on the back. If you already have an amplifier, you can use the ZEN Air DAC as a pure DAC with your own amplifier.
Flexible formats
ZEN Air DAC supports different file formats - PCM 32bit/384kHz, DSD256 and native MQA.
PCM - Pulse Code Modulation is the file format used on CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays and other digital audio applications. It is the next step after MP3.
DSD - Direct Stream Digital is a very high quality audio format, superior to CD quality. The higher the number (sampling rate), the better the recording - DSD64, 128, 256, 512 and 1024. Completely native means that it has not been altered in any way from the original recording.
MQA - Master Quality Authenticated is an award-winning audio technology that allows music fans to play the original recording at home, in the car or on the go. With ZEN Air DAC you can listen to MQA immediately. Simply connect it to Tidal Masters and check the MQA playback option.
Sonic modeling
The ZEN Air DAC also supports some iFi-branded sonic tweaks.
PowerMatch adjusts the gain of the DAC to be able to operate at the correct level for the headphones used. Gain is just a unit of measure that indicates the volume of an audio source, and is measured in decibels (dB). XBass+ allows you to adjust the bass according to your preferences. Both functions are designed to enhance and personalize the listening experience.
